Job description

​As a member of the technical staff, the Senior Structural Designer is responsible for preparing technical drawings for the design of modular TIAC (Turbine Inlet Air Cooling) Plant, CHP, Mission Critical and District Cooling Plant up to full production. During the design process, the designer will work closely with the engineer to compile production drawings, including framing layout, material specification, connection details, pipe support design, and fabrication drawings. This Designer will also be responsible for technical coordination of all products currently in production.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with senior structural engineer for instructions and direction for the project design.

  • Compile standard project drawings depicting the systems to be manufactured by our client.

  • These drawings will include load diagrams, structural framing plan, lifting diagrams, pipe support design, installation details, and 3D models of modular structure.

  • Involved with specification review for system requirements, assist with generation of design calculations, verify design dimensions in the field, and generate bills of materials.

  • Accomplish tasks to the company procedures, specifications, standards, and any project specific addenda.

  • Participate in project teams and all activities related to the development of the modular plant.

  • Provide technical support to sales and marketing for bids and proposals, such as bill of materials and layouts.

  • Prepare design drawing packages to enable procurement, supply, fabrication, installation, and construction to take place.

  • Maintain good interface with designers, drafters, and production personnel from an array of design disciplines.

Work Environment

Most work is performed in an office environment. Regular trips to the Fabrication Shop for observation and support may be necessary which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and head protection.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.

The employee must be able to bend, climb, stoop, or stretch as required to examine fabricated components at the site or fabrication shop.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Travel

Anticipated 15% travel for this position. Some occasional local day travel may also be necessary.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of an Associates 2-year degree in drafting or related technical discipline.

  • 4 years’ experience with industrial structural design and drafting.

  • Experienced in AutoCAD software.

  • Intermediate to advance proficiency in Advanced Steel and Revit.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience in power plant or refrigeration design or similar projects working experience.

  • Familiar with general mechanical equipment including pumps, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, etc.

Work Authorization

Must be authorized to work in the United States, or a Canadian citizen.
